Eldoret is set to host a new community road-running event this weekend as Absa Bank Kenya launches its inaugural City Run, bringing elite athletes and recreational runners together to celebrate fitness and the town’s rich athletics heritage.

The Absa Eldoret City Run will take place on Sunday, November 1, with free 3km, 5km and 10km routes open to residents, families, running clubs and fitness enthusiasts.

Eldoret, widely known as the Home of Champions for producing world-class distance runners, is the first stop in the bank’s new City Run series, launched as part of its centenary celebrations.

Elite athletes are expected to take part in the 10km category, while the broader event aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to embrace active lifestyles.

Absa Bank Kenya Eldoret Regional Manager Timothi Kosgey says the run would celebrate the bank’s century-long relationship with the region while encouraging community participation in sport.

Kosgey is urging residents to take part regardless of their running experience, saying the event was intended to bring people together through wellness and shared experiences.

The initiative extends Absa’s involvement in Kenyan athletics beyond elite competition. The bank supports events including the Absa Sirikwa Classic and the Absa Kip Keino Classic, which provide platforms for established athletes and emerging talent.

In 2026, Absa invested Ksh 60 million in Kenya’s athletics calendar, including Ksh 35 million towards Athletics Kenyacompetitions and events. Its sporting partnerships also include marathon star Eliud Kipchoge.

The City Run series is intended to broaden that support by giving ordinary Kenyans more opportunities to participate in recreational running, rather than limiting the focus to professional competition.

The Eldoret event follows an Absa @100 Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday, October 31, as the bank’s centenary celebrations continue with customer appreciation and community engagements.

Registration information is available through Absa Bank Kenya’s Facebook and Instagram pages and at its Eldoret branch.
