8 Ball Pool brings head-to-head gaming to LG smart TVs

Fans of the world’s most downloaded mobile pool game can now take their shots on the big screen, as 8 Ball Pool makes its debut on LG Smart TVs in a move that could turn living rooms into competitive gaming arenas.

The partnership between LG Electronics and Miniclip, the game’s owner, brings the title to televisions running webOS 6.0 and above, including models released from 2021. Players can access it through the LG Gaming Portal or LG Apps and control their shots using the LG Magic Remote.

Recognised by Guinness World Records as the most downloaded mobile pool game, 8 Ball Pool has surpassed one billion downloads worldwide.

The television version introduces Couch Play Mode, allowing two players to compete against each other on the same screen without needing separate devices. The feature is designed to bring friends and families together for quick-fire matches from the comfort of their sofas.

On LG televisions measuring more than 100 inches, including selected QNED evo and Micro RGB models, the game offers an even larger playing experience. Players can aim, adjust shot power and strike using the remote control, while optional in-game purchases allow further personalisation.

Television makers are increasingly keen on turning their screens into gaming hubs, broadening entertainment beyond traditional broadcasts and streaming services.

LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, head of the webOS Platform Business Center, Chris Jo says the company has tripled the number of web-based games on its webOS platform over the past two years, expanding its catalogue to more than 1,000 free-to-play titles.

The company reported a 67% year-on-year increase in gaming usage, while total hours played rose by 71% and individual gaming sessions increased by 50%.

Jo said the partnership would expand the platform’s gaming offering with popular titles designed for bigger screens.
