Emirates SkyCargo has launched a specialised logistics service for artificial intelligence infrastructure, seeking to tap rising demand for the transportation of high-value computing equipment as global investment in AI accelerates.
The new AI Tech product targets shipments of server racks, semiconductors, graphics processing units (GPUs) and other critical technology equipment, offering priority loading, specialised handling and real-time shipment monitoring through the airline’s command centre in Dubai.
Emirates SkyCargo, Divisional Senior Vice President, Badr Abbas says the airline transported more than 700 tonnes of AI infrastructure across its global network in July alone, highlighting growing demand for specialised cargo services as companies expand their computing capacity.
“Behind every AI breakthrough is physical infrastructure that needs to arrive safely and on time,” says Abbas, adding that the service was designed to protect sensitive equipment and minimise delays that could disrupt technology deployment schedules.
The service incorporates standardised handling procedures to maintain equipment orientation, airport-to-airport shipment visibility, proactive customer communication and specialist project cargo support for oversized and heavy shipments.
Abbas says AI logistics service would be available across the Emirates SkyCargo’s global network, while shipments involving highly specialised manufacturing equipment would undergo advance assessments to establish whether individual airports can accommodate their requirements.
The airline plans to operate 23 dedicated freighters by March 2027, providing additional capacity for large and heavy server racks, some weighing more than 3.5 tonnes.
Emirates SkyCargo will also use cargo space aboard its wide-body passenger aircraft to support shipments.
