Bamburi Cement has invested more than Ksh 5 million in water access and education projects in Bureni village, Kilifi County. This follows the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole serving more than 100 households and handing over two classrooms at Bureni Primary School.
Bamburi Cement Managing Director Geofrey Ndugwa says the projects were developed in response to community requests, with the new Grade 7 and Grade 8 classrooms equipped with desks and lockers to improve learning conditions for more than 100 pupils.
“When the community decided to expand Bureni School to include Grade 6, it contacted Bamburi. Last year, we constructed the Grade 6 classroom and donated a water tank. This year, we constructed two more classrooms for a conducive learning environment,” says Ndugwa.
The investment builds on Bamburi Cement’s wider community programme in Vipingo, which includes education sponsorships, medical camps, sanitation initiatives and improvements to local access roads.
