President William Ruto says the Government has intensified the upgrading of roads across the country to spur trade.
President Ruto said the move is aimed at creating the right environment for businesses to thrive.
He noted that modernised infrastructure means better earnings, more jobs and enhanced economic growth for the country.
He said Kshs 260 billion has been earmarked for improvement of roads in the country.
President Ruto says rehabilitation of rural roads will open up agricultural areas.
He said infrastructure is critical to development, hence the huge investment in the sector.
President Ruto said the transport sector, and in particular roads, play a key role in facilitating marketing of agricultural produce as well as development of industries.
“Improvement of roads in rural areas will help farmers access markets for their farm produce,” said President Ruto.
The President spoke at Shamata shopping center in Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County, on Thursday, during the launch of the Maili Kumi-Subukia-Sipala-Shamata-Kaka-Kariamu road.
Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha said: “The completion of this road will help farmers transport their farm produce to markets and also promote tourism activities in our county.”
The 50-kilometre road that will be constructed at a cost of Kshs 1.6 billion is expected to be completed in the next one and half years.
President Ruto cautioned that no delays in delivering the projects on time will be tolerated.
He argued that delays in roads constructions deny the country the much needed accessibility and faster movement of people and goods in the development process.
