Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba says the government has put contingency measures in place to protect national examinations from disruption by the forecast heavy rains, with 3.63 million candidates expected to sit assessments across Kenya.
Ogamba says examination materials for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) andKenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), scheduled to begin on Monday had been secured in containers awaiting distribution to examination centres.
He says the government has mapped flood-prone areas with the Kenya Red Cross Society, the Interior Ministry and other agencies to identify locations where flooding and damaged roads could hamper delivery of examination papers.
Ogamba says the government would ensure materials reach centres on time, with aerial delivery planned where access proved difficult, adding that invigilators and supervisors had completed preparations for what he described as the largest examination exercise so far.
The Ministry of Education has introduced anonymous examination seals and colour-coded papers for selected subjects to curb leakages and strengthen examination security.
Ogamba says the government is keen on protecting the credibility of the education system and ensuring its qualifications remain recognised internationally.
