Co-operative Bank of Kenya has been named the Best Retail Bank and Best Digital Bank in Kenya at the 2026 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, recognising its expansion of digital services and customer-focused banking strategy.

The awards that were presented in London on July 16, recognise financial institutions for excellence in performance, innovation, customer service and strategic execution across the global banking industry.

The lender has been investing heavily in digital platforms to meet growing demand for mobile and online financial services while expanding access to banking products.

Co-operative Bank Group Chief Executive Gideon Muriuki says the lender serves more than 9.8 million account holders, with over 90% of customer transactions now conducted through digital and alternative channels, underscoring the rapid shift away from traditional branch banking.

Muriuki says the awards reflect the lender’s strategy of combining relationship banking with technology-driven services.

“This recognition as Kenya’s Best Retail Bank and Best Digital Bank is a strong affirmation of our customer-centric strategy and the progress we continue to make in combining trusted relationship banking with secure, accessible and innovative digital solutions,” said Muriuki.

The bank has expanded its digital ecosystem through enhanced customer onboarding, mobile payments, digital lending, open-banking integrations and its Co-op Bank App, while maintaining an extensive branch network across the country.

The Euromoney Awards add to a list of accolades won by Co-op Bank that include; SME Bank of the Year in Africa at the African Banker Awards, Best Commercial Bank of the Year, Kenya, by the International Banker Africa and North Africa Banking Awards, the SME Financier of the Year – Africa (Gold) award and the Product Innovation of the Year – Africa award of the Global SME Finance Awards 2025.
