Greece is set to play England in a Group A clash at the Athens Olympic Stadium on Thursday. At this stage, Lee Carsley is still at the wheel as the interim head coach, but he will be handing over to German tactician Thomas Tuchel in the new year.
The Three Lions are currently placed second in the group, three points behind their Greek opposition who are occupying first place. According to reports, Tuchel has handed Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford a lifeline to earn his spot back in the squad.
The source states that Tuchel believes England failed to win the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament because they didn’t have Rashford as one of their attacking options. The coach wants Rashy to be a part of the squad and thinks he will make up an integral part of it.
“Other teams fear his abilities and Tuchel said he believed without Rashford, England didn’t offer a strong attacking threat on the left and that made them easier to play against as a lot of the ball came down the right. Tuchel is a huge admirer of Marcus. It’s a great boost for him and another encouragement to try and get back to his best,” said the source.

As for Greece, the country is still on the quest for glory as they remain undefeated in the Nations League with four wins in a row, their most recent victory coming against the Republic of Ireland.
Since taking over as head coach of the Ethniki, Ivan Jovanovic has led the team to their highest position in the FIFA Rankings since 2017. Impressive isn’t it?
