Over 3.5 billion cyber attacks were experienced in Kenya in the year to June 2024. Communications Authority of Kenya Director General David Mugonyi says more than 90% of the cyber attacks targeted to exploit system vulnerabilities.
Mugonyi says: “System vulnerabilities remain the weakest link with the increased use of Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets, many of which are intrinsically unsafe.”
The increasing cyber attacks and vulnerability of individuals and institutions has prompted the Communications Authority of Kenya to make October the Cyber Security Awareness Month over the last four years.
