The Management University of Africa has allayed fears that increasing use of artificial intelligence in everyday tasks will render people jobless.
Management University of Africa Vice Chancellor Prof. John Cheluget says technology is an invaluable tool in research, learning and administration.
Speaking during the Management University of Africa’s technology and AI conference, Prof. Cheluget said: “We have seen artificial intelligence is cutting across all sectors of the economy. As scholars, we need to really move with speed to see how to accommodate artificial intelligence but ethically.”
Prof. Cheluget said the Management University of Africa is infusing artificial intelligence in courses offered by the institution of learning.
He says the university is also putting in place measures to ensure that students do not misuse artificial intelligence.

His sentiments were echoed by the university’s former Vice Chancellor Prof. Washington Okeyo who is instead urging Kenyans to embrace artificial intelligence for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
Prof. Okeyo underscored the need for those in academia to use artificial intelligence in a more responsible manner.
“Earlier on at the onset of artificial intelligence we kind of resisted it and even told our students that artificial intelligence is bad, don’t use it. But we realised that it is a wave that has come and that we can’t stop it. So, we started coming up with ways and means of which to ensure that our students use artificial intelligence in a more responsible manner,” said Prof. Okeyo.
He says the initial concerns were rooted in fears that students could misuse AI for cheating.
