Why teachers have vowed not to go on strike in two weeks

Teachers have vowed not to report back to schools for third term on 26th of this month if the pay-hike they were promised is not implemented.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Secretary General, Collins Oyuu has warned that teachers will not resume work if the second phase of their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) that was expected to come into force in July 2024, is not honored.

Oyuu has also ruled out re-negotiation of the CBA or its implementation.

If teachers go on strike, it would derail preparations for end of the year primary and secondary school examinations.

Both KNUT and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have threatened a nationwide teachers’ strike effective from the beginning of third term.
