Why Rigathi wants international community to intervene over IEBC

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is calling on the international community to put pressure on President William Ruto to constitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Gachagua accuses the Kenya Kwanza administration of deliberately delaying to constitute a team of commissioners of the electoral body.

He says with the continued delays, the government risks plunging the country into a constitutional crisis and flouting the law that requires the commission to be in place at least two years to the general elections.

Kenya is two years and seven months away from the next general election, which is slated to be held on 10thof August 2027.

The former Deputy President is calling on the international community to intervene and put pressure on President Ruto to ensure he constitutes the IEBC to kickstart the process of elections preparedness.

Gachagua was speaking during a church service at AIPCA Dandora in Embakasi North Constituency, Nairobi County.
