Why Man City vs Newcastle United is a must watch this weekend

Potential thrillers pitting Manchester City against Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United will headline Matchday 25 of the 2024-25 Premier League season this weekend.

Manchester City will welcome Newcastle United to the Etihad Stadium on the late afternoon of Saturday 15 February, as Pep Guardiola’s Citizens look to prove that they are getting back to their best – though the physical intensity offered by the Magpies will certainly stretch the reigning Premier League champions.

An ace up City’s sleeve is Egyptian attacker Omar Marmoush, who was signed from Eintracht Frankfurt last month and is already making a great impression in the famous sky blue shirt.

“There’s a reason City brought him [Marmoush] because he has something special. He got straight into the team and It’s about getting to know him as soon as possible because there are so many important games coming. It’s about giving him confidence and he’s going to be a fantastic player for us,” said teammate and fellow attacker Erling Haaland.

Another ‘banger’ on the fixture list is the meeting of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United on the early evening of Sunday 16 February. Both Spurs and the Red Devils have wildly underachieved this season, but the heady mix of inherent talent and complete disorganisation that pervades these teams should make for an amazing and unpredictable game of football – that could produce literally any score line!

“I want them [the players] to know me in the different ways and not always preparing the match, with stress. We do not have the time to do [that]. I think that is the secret of teams, even when you have the best players and that feeling, it is really hard to win and I wanted to build something like that here. But we need time for that,” said Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim.

The round, which gets underway on Friday night with Brighton & Hove Albion looking to claim the scalp of Chelsea, will also feature Arsenal chasing three points at Leicester City, Everton looking to continue their revival under David Moyes, and title-chasing Liverpool hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.
