Higher transport costs and expensive food pushed up the rate of inflation in Kenya to an eight-month high of 4.1%, up from 3.6% last month.
The last time the rate of inflation was higher than the current rate was in August 2024 when it was at 4.4%.
Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) indicates that on a month-on-month basis, transport fares rose the most in April 2025 at 22.2% perhaps to reflect increased travel cost after schools closed and opened as well as movements during the Easter holidays.
Other notable increases in prices were noted in the price of irish potatoes, electricity, maize, maize flour, tomatoes and sugar.
