The Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO) has welcomed the decision by President William Ruto to cancel the Privately Initiated Proposal (PIP) for the concession of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
KAAO says the Adani Group linked concession of JKIA as structured “posed significant challenges to transparency, inclusivity, and the strategic future of JKIA.”
The association says “the stakes were too high for a one bidder process” for the management of Kenya’s main airport and East and Central Africa’s regional hub.
In a statement, the Kenya Association of Air Operators is calling for “an open competitive bidding process and adequate stakeholder consultation throughout the process” should the government want to march on with plans to enter a Public Private Partnership deal over management of JKIA.
