Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is wondering why legislators want him to leave office when he and President William Ruto were elected in 2022 as a pair.
Gachagua believes he was given the mandate by millions of Kenyans who should be given a chance to vote him out in 2027 and not elected leaders removing him from office now.
“We elected many leaders [in the 2022 General Election]. Is it possible to remove others from office?” posed the Deputy President.
He believes the impeachment process by the National Assembly and the Senate is a violation of the constitution.
“The President [William Ruto] and I were elected on one ticket. We are asking that the people’s choice and their will be respected,” Gachagua said on Sunday at St.Mark Teachers’ Training College Kigari, Manyatta, Embu County, during a church service and the 34th Anniversary of the ACK Embu Diocese.
The Deputy President is banking on the Judiciary to restore order after his impeachment process.
“I am certain that the courts will exercise judicial authority and protect and uphold the Constitution and the will of the people. They [judicial officers] protect the Constitution, rule of law and always ensure the will of the people is respected. I have confidence that rule of law will prevail and the will of people will be upheld,” Gachagua said.
