Wavinya to block contractors who do shoddy work

Machakos Governor, Wavinya Ndeti has vowed to blacklist contractors who do shoddy work after winning government tenders.

Addressing the local residents who joined her in an inspection tour of Miwani-New Machakos City roadwhich is being rehabilitated, the governor demanded of contractors to ensure value for money is realized in all development tenders.

“Any contractor who does a shoddy job will be black listed and will never be awarded any other contract by the county government,” declared Wavinya.

The governor said it was unacceptable for the government to spend millions of shillings in paying for services that end up being done poorly.

“Machakos residents gave me a responsibility to ensure their taxes are utilized in a manner that is beneficial to them and I will stop at nothing to ensure compliance with high standards,” she said.

Wavinya said the 3.7 kilometer road, which was in a poor state will open up the New Machakos City to investors.

The road, she said, will also extend to join Machakos-Wote road and serve as a convenient bypass for those traveling to the neighboring Makueni county.

She revealed her government was implementing 53 road contracts whose progress is at different levels.

“Our goal is to ensure every road in Machakos is motorable. In doing so, we will enhance faster movement of goods and people thereby stimulating economic growth,” she said.

She pledged more roads will be done at the absorption of budget in the next financial year.

The governor later inspected the recently rehabilitated Machakos Matatu bus park where she also addressed a crowd.
