UK Medical Research Fund awards GBP 317,863 to AIU and LSHTM for research into the health impacts of climate change on Maternal and newborn health

The Africa International University (AIU) in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) have secured a research grant to conduct a study on climate change induced heat exposure on postpartum women and their newborns.

The study’s principal Investigators Dr Adelaide Lusambili, Associate Professor from AIU and Dr Cherie Part, a Research Fellow and Medical Statistics at LSHTM will develop mathematical functions to estimate indoor temperatures from weather data and identify building structures most conducive to maternal and neonatal health.

The research team will also work with local and government stakeholders to design interventions to mitigate extreme heat effects on mothers and newborns.
