Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to be launched in March 2024

The Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) is set to be launched on 1st of March 2024. Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha says SHIF aims to provide comprehensive coverage, including screening, dialysis, transplants, medications, and equipment, to all Kenyans, particularly vulnerable populations.

“With approval secured, the Ministry [of Health] will initiate registration next month, moving towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and emphasizing preventive healthcare,” Nakhumicha said during the prayer service graced by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at St Andrew’s Catholic Church in Kwanza Constituency, Trans Nzoia County.
