“Semester at Sea” cruise ships in 763 tourist students

Cruise vessel World Odyssey has made her third call on the Port of Mombasa shipping in 763 tourists who are in Kenya for six days.

Aboard the cruise ship are 585 students with the remaining being faculty members and crew members. They will visit institutions of higher learning for educational tours, conduct excursions and visit various tourist sites across the country.

“Semester at Sea carries students around the world learning the histories of the countries they visit. The students are of mixed nationalities with one Kenyan student aboard. She sailed from India and will be visiting Mauritius as the next port of call,” said the Kenya Ports Authority.

The students are drawn from over 20 nations including Kenya.

Popularly known as “Semester at Sea” the World’s biggest Floating Campus, which operates academic voyage for students will be in Mombasa until 14th February 2024.

The Floating Campus administered by the Institute of Shipboard Education in partnership with Colorado State University, made a call on the Port of Mombasa last year and in 2022.

The Port of Mombasa has recorded an increase in cruise vessel calls pointing to improved connectivity of the port and a hub for cruise tourism in Africa.

The Port of Mombasa last week hosted; MSC Poesia one of the biggest cruise vessels to have called the port.
