Professional golfers are battling for crucial qualification points as the PGK Equator Tour enters its final leg at the par-72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
The finale comes at a pivotal moment, with players chasing slots at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
A total of 35 golfers are participating.
Safaricom Team currently leads the corporate rankings with 7,575 points, ahead of Kenya Airways (5,635), Visa Team (4,745), Johnnie Walker (4,460), NCBA (4,370) and Britam (1,810).
Standout performer Samuel Njoroge is aiming to cap off a strong season, while local favourites Mutahi Kibugu and Matthew Wahome are seeking to impress on home turf.
“The PGK Equator Tour has been an incredible journey for all of us. The competition has been intense, and every leg has pushed us to raise our game. Leading the table heading into the finale is a huge motivation and a reflection of our consistency and hard work. Playing the final leg at Royal Nairobi makes it even more special. We are grateful to Safaricom for the support that has given us the platform, confidence and exposure to compete at this level, while also uplifting the entire tour and Kenyan golf,” said Njoroge.
Launched in July last year, the PGK Equator Tour has been staged at leading courses across the country, including Ruiru Sports Club, Limuru Country Club, Great Rift Valley Lodge, Nakuru Golf Club, Diamond Leisure Golf Resort and Sigona Golf Club, helping raise the standard of professional golf and grow fan engagement.
The Royal Nairobi finale is expected to deliver a fitting climax, combining elite competition with an opportunity for fans to engage with Kenya’s emerging golfing stars.
“As the PGK Equator Tour comes to a close, we are proud to support these four exceptional golfers. They have shown resilience and showcased the talent Kenya has to offer when given the right platform, even as they pursue Olympic qualification,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.
Safaricom is among the corporate sponsors for the tour committing Ksh 3 million to support Njoroge, Mediratta, Kibugu and Wahome.
