Riara University, has broken ground for construction of a new campus at the Konza Technopolis. The Kshs 20 billion Riara University – Konza Technopolis Campus will be the second and main campus for the university.
“The Riara University-Konza Technopolis Campus is poised to accelerate the next phase of our growth and development in line with our motto of nurturing innovators,” said Riara University, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Robert Gateru.
The university will be built in three phases, with phase 1 expected to be completed in March 2025.
“We are repositioning ourselves to become the innovation and start up university of Africa, offering unique and specialised programs and science technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in line with the model of Stanford University at Silicon Valley in California,” said Riara University, Council Chairman, Isaac Awuondo.

The ground breaking, officiated by the Head of public Service Felix Koskei, marks the beginning of the development of the Silicon Savannah by the private sector.
“We are happy to see the private sector now come in and start to develop their projects,” Koskei said, noting that the government has completed laying the horizontal infrastructure.
Konza Technopolis has so far on-boarded over 140 investors within its various bands.
“We are excited to have Riara University start off their construction project, a statement to the fact that we are ready for investors. The campus is an addition to the existing two institutions of higher learning, Kenya Advanced Institute of Technology and Science (Ke-AIST) and Open University of Kenya (OUK),” Konza Technopolis CEO John Paul Okwiri, said.
