No public participation in 3pc housing development levy

Azimio Leader Raila Odinga has criticized the decision by the Kenya Kwanza administration to slash 3% from the working class to fund the proposed affordable housing project as illegal and one that lacks the support from the masses.

He says, the decision being imposed on Kenyan workers was made without public participation saying it is ill-advised.

Speaking Friday in Getui village in Kiharu Constituency of Murang’a County during the funeral of Mama Mary Nyambura, the mother-in-law to former Governor of Murang’a County, Raila said the idea of cheap houses for Kenyans is good but it must not be imposed on them for funding.

“We are not opposed to it. Infact people need decent houses, but for m a project of this magnitude, Kenyans who are taxpayers must be involved, he said.

He said not everyone needs those houses but it is important that Kenyans should be explained to in why they should fund it as opposed to the current situation where they are being forced to.

On the Finance Bill 2023, the ODM leader said it was a no for Kenyans as it is aimed at adding more pain on them economically.
