Non-governmental organisations involved in humanitarian assistance for flood victims are on notice to ensure they genuinely forward the funds they raise towards alleviating the suffering of the affected communities.
East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza says there are many organizations fund raising money and other forms of assistance for flood victims but the resources are not channeled to the victims.
“Let nobody take advantage of the suffering of floods victims by raising funds but then pocket the money instead of channelling it to help the flood victims,” she said.
Malonza made the remarks at Tara area when she toured Tana River County to assess the ravages of floods in the county.
She also witnessed distribution of food and non-food aid to flood victims which included rice, beans, fortified Unga, mattresses and other household items.
