Midweek thrills and spills will take centre stage in Matchday 27 of the Premier League, which features Tottenham Hotspur hosting Manchester City, and Newcastle United heading to Liverpool.
Tottenham and Man City have both endured difficult campaigns, with the former flirting with the relegation zone for a while, while the latter are set to miss out on a fifth straight title and will have to work hard to the end of the season just to ensure they secure a top-four finish and return to the UEFA Champions League.
Spurs have had the edge over City in the teams’ meetings this season, with the London club winning 2-1 in a Carabao Cup clash in October, and 4-0 in a Premier League meeting at the Etihad Stadium just under a month later.
“When you lose 0-4 there’s nothing to say except to congratulate Tottenham,” said Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola at the time – though you can bet he will be plotting revenge for this clash in North London on Wednesday night.

On the same evening, Anfield will host a clash between title favourites Liverpool and Champions League-chasing Newcastle. These teams have a reputation for producing thrilling matches through the Premier League era, with their 3-3 draw at St James Park back in December a further example.
The Magpies will hope to bring a high intensity to this fixture – something that helped them match up to the Reds in the above-mentioned draw.
“We had a lot of problems with their intensity, aggressive playing style without the ball – aggressive in a good way. We tried to cope with it, but every time we touched them we got a yellow and that doesn’t really help for us to be intense then as well. But we give credit to them, they were more intense than us. They forced us into too many mistakes,” said Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

The midweek round opens on Tuesday night, with the focus falling on South Coast clubs: Brighton & Hove Albionand Bournemouth will have a regional derby at the Amex Stadium, while relegation-bound Southampton face a tough match away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Wednesday, also features Nottingham Forest looking to continue their great season with a home win over Arsenal, as well as Manchester United chasing a rare home win when they host Ipswich Town.
Thursday closes out the midweek action with a clash between West Ham United and Leicester City at the London Stadium.
