NCA evacuates a building in Kahawa West over safety concerns

The National Construction Authority (NCA) has ordered tenants of a four-storey building in Kahawa West, Nairobi County to vacate due to safety concerns.

NCA, Executive Director, Eng. Maurice Akech says the building was flagged for several structural integrity issues, including: visible cracks compromising the building’s stability and significant dampness on the balconies.

In a statement, NCA says the vacation was done after the identification of the unsafe residential building. Akech says the decision was taken in collaboration with the Nairobi City County Government, the National Police Service and National Government Administration Officers.

“As a result of this joint effort, an enforcement notice was issued, leading to the immediate evacuation of residents and the cordoning off of the building to prevent any potential tragedy,” says Akech.
