Members of Parliament are today (Friday) set to debate and either approve or reject the nomination of Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the Deputy President, to take over from Rigathi Gachagua who was on Thursday impeached by the Senate, after being impeached by the National Assembly last week.
Prof. Kindiki was early Friday nominated by President William Ruto and his name forwarded to parliament for debate.

The nomination came hours after Gachagua had moved to court to block his replacement.
Gachagua who was set to give his account during his impeachment proceedings in Senate was reported to have been taken ill by his lead counsel of lawyers led by Paul Muite.
“May I start by expressing apologies and regrets that the Deputy President is not here. The sad reality is that the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya has been taken sick, very sick, and as I address this honourable House, he is in the hospital,” Muite told Senators on Thursday afternoon.
Senators went ahead to impeach Gachagua during a voting session held after Muite led the defence counsel in walking out, after their plea to have the impeached Deputy President be given until Tuesday next week to give his account was over-ruled by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
And today, President Ruto has appointed Prof. Kindiki to replace Gachagua.
