Kenyan President says several arrested for selling fake fertiliser

Unnamed number of people have been arrested in connection with the sale of substandard fertilizer.

President William Ruto says investigations have been launched to bring to book those behind the sale of fake seeds and fertilizer.

“Just today, we have arrested some of the characters who want to take advantage of our fertiliser supply programme and we have already many more who have been charged in court,” said President Ruto.

He says those convicted of selling substandard seeds and fertilizer will face criminal charges.

“We must deal with those who sabotage our subsided fertilizer programme,” said President Ruto.

Speaking at Masinde Muliro University during the Kakamega County International Investment Conference, President Ruto said: “I want to assure farmers that the government is working round the clock to make fertilizer available” before the planting season.
