Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating the evacuation of the 26,599 Kenyans in Lebanon. A statement from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs indicates that Kenya is working with Kenya’s Mission in Kuwait and other partners to ensure the safe evacuation of Kenyans.
Kenya is among a host of countries that have advised their citizens to leave Lebanon on fears of conflict in the Middle East after Iran vowed severe retaliation against Israel, which it blames for the death of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last Wednesday.
Countries fear that Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militia and political movement based in Lebanon, could play a key role in any such retaliation, which in turn could spark an Israeli response.
