Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs Enforcement officers from Lwakhakha Border Station in Western Region have intercepted a truck that was ferrying suspected 7,500 litres of uncustomed ethanol.

The consignment was contained in 30 drums each containing 250 litres of ethanol and was being smuggled from Uganda.

A search on the truck established that the suspected illicit ethanol consignment had been concealed under 2 tonnes of oranges.

According to KRA’s Customs team, the approximate value of customs duties and taxes on the ethanol consignment is Kshs 4 million.

The truck is currently detained at the Lwakhakha Border Station while investigations are ongoing.
