Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has extended his apology to the Members of Parliament and Kenyans over his actions and utterances that hurt them.
The chest thumping Deputy President cut a reconciliatory tone during a Sunday service a day before debate on his impeachment motion starts in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
“To our Members of Parliament; if in the course of duty through my utterances and action, I have, in one way or another, upset you or wronged you, find it in your heart to forgive me. If our brothers, who did not support the President and myself in my [Mt Kenya] region and Rift Valley, find that in appreciating our people, probably our utterances made you feel uncomfortable, we did not mean to offend you. We were simply appreciating the people who voted for us,” said Gachagua during a Sunday service at the National Prayer Altar at the Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi.

In days before the impeachment motion was tabled in parliament, the Deputy President was firm that no elected leader would remove him from his seat and only Kenyans who elected him and President William Ruto had the mandate to do so.
“Wanafikiria wanaweza kuniuzia uoga. MPs should do their work on legislation and stop interfering with the Executive. They should concentrate on passing of laws that will benefit people not politics,” Gachagua said during a three-tour of Kirinyaga, Embu and Meru counties last weekend.
He made an about-turn on Sunday, saying: “If you feel that I rubbed you in the wrong way, please find it in your heart to forgive me. To the people of Kenya, in our service to the country, if there is anything I have done or said that you find unpalatable, that you find unacceptable, please find it in your heart to forgive me.”

Reports indicate that Gachagua has angered the leadership of UDA party as well as politicians outside his party.
He said: “In our zeal to work, in our commitment to work, probably, in one way or another, I may have wronged somebody, I want to say to my brother President William Ruto, please find it in your heart to forgive me.”
