Deputy President William Ruto has blamed the high cost of living and high unemployment rate on misplaced priorities by greedy individuals in Government.
Ruto has said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will get the country back on track.
The Deputy President said the derailment of the Big Four agenda denied millions of Kenyans jobs.
He said: “This year, we have the opportunity to form a government that will think about creating jobs for youth, a government that understands that Kenyans are hit with high cost of living.”
He was speaking today in Makadara in the company of Party Leaders Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), MPs Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Kindiki Kithure (Tharaka Nithi), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Nixon Korir (Lang’ata), Millicent Omanga (nominated) and former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru.
The Deputy President said the Kenya Kwanza administration will prioritise the creation of jobs and opportunities for the youth.
He said they invest Sh100 billion in labour-intensive programmes that will create additional jobs for our youth.
Ruto said: “They decided the priority of the Government will be to amend the Constitution. This year the priority is the creation of jobs.”
The Deputy President said they will address the high cost of living by investing in agriculture to ensure we produce enough food and hence lower food prices.
Mudavadi said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance had come together to form a people centered government that will address challenges facing ordinary citizens.
He said: “We do not want to have a puppet President who will be controlled. We want a leader who will represent the interests of the people.”
Wetang’ula said Odinga does not have a plan to create jobs and address the high cost of living.
The Ford Kenya party leader said Odinga was keen on maintaining the status quo instead of bringing change.
He said: “I heard Odinga say he will pick President Kenyatta as his advisor, how can you bring the person who caused all these problems to solve the same problem.”
Wetang’ula said the Kenya Kwanza will revive the manufacturing industry to create jobs.
Korir said many industries have shut down because the government is not keen on creating jobs in the manufacturing sector.
He said: “This time lets vote for a president who cares about the welfare of ordinary citizens.”
At the same time, the leaders asked Odinga to commit to Kenyans that he will not organize protests and cause violence if he loses the elections.
Gachagua asked Odinga to assure Kenyans that he will accept election results.
He said: “We want Raila to promise that if he loses the election he will accept the results. That you will not organize protests, swear yourself in or demand a handshake.”
Kindiki asked Odinga not to give ultimatums for him to accept election results.
He said: “Do not give conditions, you must accept election results unconditionally. When Ruto defeats you, do not organize protests.”
